The construction of a state-of-the-art 'Airtight' book storage facility at Boston Spa, West Yorkshire. The facility, which will be constructed alongside the Library's existing buildings, will provide additional storage capacity for 7 million items for the UK national collection and provide over 262 linear kilometres of high density storage in a low-oxygen environment.
The fully automated facility will house low and medium use items from the Library's immense collections of books and journals helping the Library meet it's storage requirements over the next decade.
The airtight building will comply with the BS5454:2000 standard, and will be 24 metre high, 42 metre wide and 84 metre long.
