Works Starts on the Kirklees College Vision
To mark the occasion College Principal Chris Sadler, along with the leader of Kirklees Council Councillor Mehboob Khan, Barry Sheerman MP and Paul Barber, Chief Executive of Strategic Sites took part in a turf cutting ceremony. The ceremony marked the first stage of work on the centre which will provide education opportunities for individuals, help local companies prosper through training and also facilitate wider regeneration within the town and surrounding areas.
The new development, which covers 24,000m2, will cost £46 million to build. The new campus comprises of two core buildings which will replace the current campus on new North Road. The building will achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating from the Building Research Establishment for its low environmental impact. The building is due to open to students in September 2012. Kirklees College received £54 million of investment from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for the new campus.
