Allenbuild Preferred for £58m Kirklees College Vision
The £58m project has been procured via a 2-stage design and build route, funded by the LSC. The project will relocate the Kirklees College Huddersfield Centre facilities onto a single site. The new state-of-the-art campus known as ‘The Vision’ designed by architect Broadway Malayan will provide approximately 28,000m2 of new accommodation for the college. The current design proposes a multi-storey building consisting of three linked blocks set into the sloping site to avoid any disruption to the existing retaining wall which forms part of the northern site boundary.
The three linked blocks will consist of a four storey construction and engineering block, which forms the western block and is linked to the seven storey central block, consisting of atrium, LRC, restaurant, bistro, refectory and classrooms, which in turn is linked to the nine storey eastern block, which houses foundation, hair & beauty, science and administration areas.
Work is programmed to start on site in 2009 and be complete by March 2011, key consultants include AA Projects and Arcadis AYH.
